Wont buy memory atleast from online again.ever. The bubble plastic packaging did not seem to be "normal" either.
I put them in and set it according to what I THOUGHT they were 800Mhz but they would not run at that speed. I bought this memory kit for my sons new pc i built for Christmas.
If it were easier I would try to get my money back. I had to slow them to 667Mhz to run stable.
The number on the modoles did not show up anywhere in a search on google or at PNY site so that is a hint that they were not real PNY. Seemed to be put back together but that is my opinion/review.
=(
The 2gig ram was okay to install. It has increased the speed of moving around on this little Acer Netbook Aspire ONE. Huge increase in speed. ah maybe not, but noticeable yes and as I use this gadget a lot, I appreciate the the up-tick in speed.
Not sure what the issue was, but I had to install one, then boot up, shut down, then the other. I went from 1MB Dell (Samsung) memory in my Dell Dimension E520 to 4GB with this memory. I found it would only install when I inserted them in a specific order, too. The info at PNY did not suggest it would work with my PC, but the Dell site showed that the spec should work. The first time I installed, the memory would not run. After I got past that, I have not had a single issue and my PC is MUCH faster. Very good investment.
It worked as expected. They will tell you which type of RAM (DDR2, DDR3, etc), how many MHz, how many pins, and how much RAM your motherboard is capable of handling (mine is now maxed out at 4GB). This is not PNY's fault. If you put in your new RAM and the computer no longer starts (maybe the fan spins but nothing shows up on your screen), don't assume new RAM broke your computer. No problems. Please do research before you buy. Another users wrote a negative review of this product because he didn't know that his motherboard was not compatible with DDR2 RAM. I bought this to upgrade my computer from 2 GB to 4. Another thing to consider when you upgrade is your power supply.
When I upgraded I had to swap out my 350 watt power supply for a 400 watt. If you bought an HP or Dell and are looking to increase RAM, visit their websites, look at your manual, or just type the name of the computer + memory upgrade into Google (example - "Dell Dimension 3000 Memory Upgrade"). I'm about to add a video card and blue ray player so I ordered a 550 watt PSU along with them. The important things to look at are the size, number of pins, MHz, and DDR. I use this computer with 64 bit Linux (primary OS) and Windows 7. You need a larger power supply.
The reason this is called "PNY Optima MD4096KD2-800 4GB 2x2GB Dual Channel Kit DDR2 800 MHz CL 5-5-5-15 PC2-6400 Desktop DIMM Memory Module" rather than simply "4GB (2x2GB) computer memory" is because only certain types of RAM will work with your motherboard. If you built your computer then this probably won't be a problem, but if someone built it for you, or you are trying to build one now, take a look at the manual that came with your motherboard or the website of the manufacturer. More RAM needs more power. For a decent inexpensive power supply, I like Diablotek.
Purchased this memory in a 2gb kit 2 units to use with windows 7 blue screen of death after a few minutes. Memory works with xp/32 2gb
